Research & Planning- 'Q' Magazine cover analysis

The genre of 'Q' magazine is alternative but as the Arctic Monkeys are starring on the cover the genre seems to be more indie rock. Alex Turner, the lead vocalist of the band is the main focus as he takes up most of the frame; the rest of the band are in the back ground as they are not as significant and recognizable  as Alex. To the left of the cover there is a headline to a story 'The Strokes, their most explosive interview ever'. This could suggest that 'Q' do not fear digging deep into an artist or band to get the story they want. The main to colours used are red and white which are simple, this could be the magazine's way of stating that they focus more on the music rather than presentation.

We can tell that on this cover the band are influenced by the legendary Oasis, Alex Turner's clothes and hairstyle show this. This could have been done to attract a wider audience. They are not just influencing Arctic Monkeys fans to buy this issue of the magazine they are also attracting Oasis' audience as well. All the members of the band are wearing different colours to show that they are individuals as well as being a member of the Arctic Monkeys. Neutral facial expressions are used to show that they are serious about their music.

The target audience of 'Q' seems to be any age except for children and also they seem to attract both males and females. This could be another reason why they have opted for using red and white as they are not associated with any particular sex. Alex Turner as seen as almost a sex symbol towards girls so having him on the cover will also attract more girls.

A medium close up is used of the Arctic Monkeys to not only show their facial expressions and hairstyles (which are significant) but we also see their clothing as they want to show their look. Capital letters are used to make the text seem more urgent and exciting.
