Research & Planning- Costume & Props
These are the types of clothes I would like my model to wear, they fit well with the genre of my magazine which alternative.
Research & Planning- Double Page Spread Analysis
Genre: We can tell that the genre of this magazine is alternative as the artist Florence And The Machine is part if this genre. Also the colours are red and black which is what we usually associate with the genre.
Target Audience: The target audience may be males as the star is a female and she is wearing a short dress. However, the word 'love' is used which is feeling associated more with women.
Layout: The smaller text is in columns which is part of the codes and conventions of a magazine, the colours also fit with the house style (red, white and black).
Representation: The artist is sat straight to show that she is a strong, powerful, independent woman. She is dressed in black which could suggest that she has a dark side to her persona. She also has a firm facial expression to show that she is serious about her job.
Media Language: The shot of the artist can link to the representation of her, a long shot is used so we can see how she's sat and also her clothing.

Research & Planning- Contents Page Analysis.

Genre: The genre if this magazine is alternative and rock, we can see this as the largest picture on the frame is of The Courteeners and they are a indie rock band. Also, this issue is and 'Oasis Special' so this also links to the genre. Lastly, in the 'Q Review section' some of the albums that are reviewed include Kings Of Leon and The Kaiser Chiefs.
Target Audience: The main target audience of 'Q' are males and also females but on this particular page the stories seem to be more male orientated. For example, one of the features is about fitness and men seem to be more interested in the subject where as women prefer fashion and beauty which there is a lack of on this contents page.
Layout: The layout of the contents page can also link to the target audience, the colour red is used which isn't associated with any particular gender so it will attract both sexes. This frame fits the codes and conventions of a magazine contents page. The font is quite small so it doesn't get mistaken for the conventions of a magazine front cover.
Representation: The main picture on this frame is of the band 'The Courteeners'. They are a Manchester band and we can tell that they are from the north by what they are wearing and how they are positioned. They are quite dressed down and are opting for a casual pose. However, the lead singer of the band, who is stood slightly forward, is wearing sunglasses to show that he is the main member of the band and he lives the 'Rock Star Lifestyle'.
Media Language: A long shot has been used to show the band's full body and outfits and also so we can see the background and in this case they are alone so they are the main focus in the photo. In addition, a low angle shot has been used so that the band are looking down on the reader as if they are portraying themselves as better than the audience.
Research & Planning- My Target Audience
Age: A typical member of my target audience would be a 18 year old who is currently studying at college or university.
Gender: I would like my magazine to attract both males and females.
Occupation: A member of my target audience would be attending college or university, stereotypically they could be studying music or some sort of arts subject.
Class: Working class- middle class.
Wealth: My ideal target audience would be students so obviously they won't have a large income.
Interests: A typical member of my target audience would have a keen interest in music, they could play an instrument and listen the alternative genre. My audience would also be interested in socializing and be enjoying the nightlife experience of university.
Outlook for the future: A member of my target audience would hopefully have a well paid job in five years time after studying at college/university.
How are you going to reach them?: In my magazine I will include information about events that cater for students and I will include up and coming artists or bands that are similar to their age.

Research & Planning- Magazine Cover Analysis

In addition, this could suggest that 'NME' could have a younger audience but still won't be aimed at children. The colour red has been used so the magazine appeals to both sexes. Also, Florence And The Machine has become quite mainstream so having her on the cover with attract a wider audience.
Florence's facial expression can suggest that she is serious about her career, her clothing is sequins which copuld show that she is wealthy and she has a necklace of flowers around her body which shows a feminine side to her. A medium longshot is used on the frame to show her outfit and her body to attract both genders.

Research & Planning- 'Q' Magazine cover analysis
The genre of 'Q' magazine is alternative but as the Arctic Monkeys are starring on the cover the genre seems to be more indie rock. Alex Turner, the lead vocalist of the band is the main focus as he takes up most of the frame; the rest of the band are in the back ground as they are not as significant and recognizable as Alex. To the left of the cover there is a headline to a story 'The Strokes, their most explosive interview ever'. This could suggest that 'Q' do not fear digging deep into an artist or band to get the story they want. The main to colours used are red and white which are simple, this could be the magazine's way of stating that they focus more on the music rather than presentation.
We can tell that on this cover the band are influenced by the legendary Oasis, Alex Turner's clothes and hairstyle show this. This could have been done to attract a wider audience. They are not just influencing Arctic Monkeys fans to buy this issue of the magazine they are also attracting Oasis' audience as well. All the members of the band are wearing different colours to show that they are individuals as well as being a member of the Arctic Monkeys. Neutral facial expressions are used to show that they are serious about their music.
The target audience of 'Q' seems to be any age except for children and also they seem to attract both males and females. This could be another reason why they have opted for using red and white as they are not associated with any particular sex. Alex Turner as seen as almost a sex symbol towards girls so having him on the cover will also attract more girls.
A medium close up is used of the Arctic Monkeys to not only show their facial expressions and hairstyles (which are significant) but we also see their clothing as they want to show their look. Capital letters are used to make the text seem more urgent and exciting.
