Research and Planning: Make Up Test Shots (Eyes)

This eye make up is not suitable for any magazine, it is too natural and doesn't make the model's eyes stand out at all.
I would use this eye make up for my magazine as it makes the model's eyes stand.

Research and Planning: Make Up Test Shots (Lips)

This lip stick is a natural pick, it just adds a shine to the lips and it creates a very natural earthly look, I would use this colour on the contents page as I plan for the make up on the model to be natural.

I like this lip gloss but I would not use it in my magazine as it does not fit my chosen genre which is indie/alternative. I would use this colour on a Pop/R&B as it ia quirky and girly.
This is my favourite lip colour, i would use this on my front cover as I want everything to stand out and be bold. I also made the model's lips look bigger by going of the line and creating my own lip shape.

Research and Planning: Make Up Test Shots (Full Face)

I really like how the make up on the model turned out, the really black eye liner makes her eyes stand out and the lips are a natural colour which brings more focus to the eyes. I would use make up like this on the front cover of my magazine for the reason that the reader will look straight to the models eyes.
I blended the colours on the eyes to add a smokey effect and I think it turbed out quite well. I didn't do them too dark as I wanted to create an equal balance between the eyes and the red lips which also work well. I would definetly use this look on one of my models for the magazine.

Research and Planning: Mis-En-Scene

These are three locations in The Northern Quarter in Manchester. The spray paint art kind of contrasts to my model's clothes I have chosen. I especially like the third picture as it is quite outrageous and unique. My favourite overall is the first picture but I think that it would not work well in my magazine, I would rather their be objects or abstract drawings rather than people. I think that the bottom picture is too urban and would not fit in with the genre of my magazine.

Research & Planning: My Magazine Today

Research & Planning- Double Page Spread Ideas

I really like this double page spread, I like the design as the title takes up most of the page and I think it looks effective. The story on my double page spread will be about an artist who has just left a very successful band and is trying to crack the music industry on her own. The title on my double page spread will be in red to match the house style and there will be maybe a long shot of the artist on one page of the spread with the mise-en-scene in the background.

Research & Planning: Masthead

These are possible Mastheads that I could use for the front cover of my magazine,  I really like the second font however the readers of my magazine may not understand the writing as part of the letters are missing. I think that my favourite out of all of the fonts is the third text, it's clear, bold and very readable it is also very modern. The first masthead would be acceptable for my magazine if the 'A' was a different size as it now looks out of proportion.
The font I am going to use for the cover of my magazine will be the second one as it is simple and is modern.

Research & Planning: Genre Research- Artists 2

For my contents page, I am going to include a model that is wearing geek style, retro glasses, rather than using them for sight they are now consider a fashion item and many artists that are part of my genre wear them, for example, Ellie Goulding.

Research and Planning: Artists That Are Part Of My Chosen Genre

 Ed Sheeran
 Kasabian
 Lana Del Ray
 Arctic Monkeys
I Blame Coco

All these artists are very unique to one another, I want the artists to be like this in my magazine.

Research & Planning: Headshots

This model may be a bit too rock for my magazine although I like her eye make up and I plan to use this style on my magazine.
This model would work well on my magazine I think but he would have to have a more serious face as the artists in my magazine are 'serious' and 'all about the music'.
hhh

This model is too old for my magazine and does not fit my specific style as well.

Research & Planning: Genre Research- Location

I have chosen to take the photos for my magazine in the city of Manchester. Usually, people would associate a city setting with RnB or Hip Hop as the atmosphere is quite urban. As I have chosen to make a Alternative\Indie magazine the mise-en-scene will contrast the artist and i think that this could be very effective. However, as the city is Manchester many indie\rock artists come from this area such as the lights of Oasis and The Stone Roses and we can tell that the whole city has been influenced by these artists.

Research & Planning: Genre Research- Hair

I would like my model to have dip dyed hair, preferably either pink, purple or blue. I think that this will make my model look individual which is what artists which are associated with my genre tend to do. I would like the style of my model's hair to have a 'just got out bed' look to it as this will fit with the mise-en-scene as the setting will be in Manchester which is quite an urban area.

Research & Planning: Genre Research- Make-up

I would like my model to have black smokey eyes and big red lips as they stand out and many existing artists in my genre seem to have this look when on photo shoots. Also, I think that my model will suit having this choice of make up so the model will not look out of place when in my magazine. The rest of my models make up will be plain so the main features on her face stand out.

Research & Planning: Plan for the week.

This week I plan to:
-Do my location recces and explain why I am using these locations.
-Produce model head shots.
-Complete genre research.

Research & Planning- SLR Pictures Trial- Finish at home.

Medium Long-Shot
Eye Level
I think that the lighting on this picture is too bright, this maybe due to the flash or the mode the camera being on the wrong setting. However, I think that this is a good quality photo. In addition, the mise-en-scene isn't very suitable for a music magazine and also there is another person in the background.

                                                                Medium Long-Shot
                                                                      Eye Level
I think that the white wash on this photo is too strong. As i am not used to using the SLR camera's it was very difficult to use set it to the correct function. When I get to the point where I am using one of the camera's for my photo shoot, i will make sure that I understand each setting and which one I should select in certain environments. However, I really like the model's positioning in the frame however I think that the pose isn't suitable for the genre of my magazine.
                                                                        Medium Shot
                                                                          Eye Level
I really like the quality of this photo, however the other students in the background make the mise-en-scene look unprofessional. When I take my pictures I will make sure that there isn't any people in the background.

Research & Planning- Publication Plan

Research & Planning: Genre Research- Artists

Florence Welch is my main inspiration for my model,  the artist seems to hide part of her face in most of her pictures which could show that she is shy. I want my artist to be portrayed as confident so I will not completely adapt her style, I will take parts, take other parts from different artists and come up with my own ideas.
I would like my model to pose like Marina on this picture, this shows that she is feminine and it also shows that she is proud of her body. I also really like the outfit, it is very mix matched which shows individuality, I may also try to adopt parts of this style for my model.

Research & Planning: Magazine Drafts

These are my drafts for my front cover and contents page with annotations, they are not in colour but the colour scheme will be red white and black, this is how i plan for all my pictures and text to be organized on the page in this way. I want 'RELEVANT' and 'CONTENTS' too be a large font so they are the main focus on the page. On the actual cover, the picture will be slightly smaller so I can fit more stories on the page.

Research & Planning- Plan For The Week

This week I plan to:

-Upload my drafts of my magazine
-Research my genre (artists, look, mise-en-scene, costume/outfits)
-Produce a Publication Plan
- Practice using and SLR camera and produce test shots
